The Durham launch site is
located on Whites Farm Field which is also the
home of the Durham Fair. Durham is not a high
power field and as such the constraints are
those of large model rocket as defined in NFPA
1127
The standard flying restrictions
are::
-
Motor - G impulse or less
-
No single motor may have
more than 160 Newton Seconds total
impulse
-
No single motor may have
more than 80 Newton Seconds
average impulse
-
No single motor may
contain more than 62.5 grams of
propellant
-
Total Impulse of all motors
must be less than 320 Newton Seconds
-
No metallic components in
the airframe structure
-
Maximum liftoff weight must
be 1,600 grams (3.3 pounds) or less
-
Maximum altitude for LMR is
per the specifications for a FAA
notification for Large Model Rockets -
4,000'
Special Note - Certain motors
commonly defined as mid power do not fit within
the constraints of the LMR definitions in
NFPA1127 and are not allowed at Durham. These
include, but are not limited to:
-
Aerotech F101T
-
Aerotech G33J
-
Aerotech G75J
-
Aerotech G104
On a separate note, certain
motors are restricted from early morning
flights. These include the Aerotech F21. The
reason for this restriction is the high pitched
sound tends to carry and as a good neighbor we
will try to accommodate those people who live
close to the field. THe club officers will
notify the flight line when the motors will be
allowed (Typically after noon). |
