Session Descriptions Rocketry as a Stepping Stone to Career - You can’t force them, but you can show them the way...Ever want to turn your hobby interest into a viable career? Or, would you like to prepare more children to go into aerospace related career fields? This seminar will show parents, educators, or any other adults how to they can take an interest in a hobby and make it a stepping-stone to a long-term career within the aerospace industry. Using a “reverse” education philosophy of hands-on first, formal education second, Troy has successfully seen many of his students fulfill their passions and go onto fun and viable careers within the aviation industry; from both commercial and military pilots, to airport management, to NASA engineers.Troy Fernandes is president of the St Louis Rocketry Association and is currently employed with The Boeing Company, Troy is retired from the U.S. Air Force, is a certified FAA instructor, and a rated pilot himself. Negotiating a Launch Site - Have you ever had a soccer parent come over and, literally, kick your rockets? Having difficulty finding a place to launch from? Or, do you have an ideal site and are being told “no” you can’t use it to fly model rockets? Being in that exact same situation a few years ago, Troy Fernandes had a wide-open, 100 acre, City Park, within a ˝ mile of his home and was summarily told “no”; model rocketry was not allowed within the park – with little explanation. Through careful planning, and upward education he took his plight forward addressing both the Mayor and City Council and managed to overturn a City Park Commissioner’s decision on this subject. Now he and his club have year round access to this same park, for free, while other sports pay to use the same fields. This light-hearted seminar will give you the tools and education necessary to tackle this tough issue and will, hopefully, see other parks become more “rocket” friendly. Question and answer session to follow. NEMROC Planning - A private session for those members of CMASS involved in the planning of the 2009 Northeast Model Rocketry Convention EMRR Overview - One of the most useful web sites there is in the rocketry community is EMRR (WWW.ROCKETREVIEWS.COM). The site founder and owner Nick Esselman will review the history of EMRR, discuss some of the features, and possibly give us some hints of the future. Rockets in School - This interactive session will enable you to get a rocketry build and fly program up and running in your school. We will provide all the tools, paper work, launch format, equipment, and resources needed for a successful program. this program will bring to life school rocketry with data sheets, pictures, and a video filmed specifically for this course. Presented by Robert Hilton, the president of CTRA-NARCONN and an experienced L2 high power flyer. TARC Presentations - A period during which any local TARC team may hone their skills for the presentation contest at the finals.
