CATO LXIII Launch Report - 22 June 2002
Durham, CT
CATO 63 was bright, sunny and hot all day. The temperature peaked at 87 degrees in the afternoon. Fortunately, the winds in the morning were very light. They eventually gave way to a couple of steady breezes in the afternoon. The grass hadn't been mowed yet and was nearly waist deep and made recovery of small rockets a challenge. We hosted the CATO B Ping Pong Ball Duration contest.Today we had 29 flyers make 144 flights and burned 2,590 Ns of propellant.
Balls O'Plenty! John and Spencer Poulin rack "Pong" for the B Ping Pong Ball Duration contest. On Red-2 is Rick Polzello's BPPBD-2. Spencer's "Ping" is on #3. Sean Hogan's "Paper Ping" is on a piston launcher behind Red-5. Sean's rocket staged an A10 to A10 combo for an outta- sight flight. Unfortunately, the track was lost. On the away pads is Joe Robert's very upscale Sky Hook waiting to fly on a G35W.
Jeannine Lawall's Rogue Aerospace "Interdictor" boosts on an Estes B6 while Peter Lawall's "Ole Faithful" waits. At right Ole Faithful starts it's smoky trip on an E11J. Peter flew this rocket three times today on different motors. Each flight had a perfect dual deployment recovery with one of his PerfectFlite altimeters.
From left to right. Jason Hick's 38 Special on a G38 rides a column of smoke skyward. Rick Polzello's Pterydactyl Jr. light-up on a G64W reload. At right is Josh Drummond's Lightning Bolt on it's 1st flight burning a G80T.
Sean Drummond helps dad tote "Lightning Bolt" back to base after a successful flight.

Here is Jeff Thomas's "101 Dalmations" followed by Joe Roberts' upscale Sky Hook on a G38FJ. At right is Tony Cote's Pong I taking off on a B4.

First off is Alex Dejong's Fat Boy on one of several flights. Second is Zack Lau's Orange Flash and third is Jeannine Lawall's Rogue Aerospace "Interdictor" . Finally we have Jay Calvert's Folding Wing II on one of several attempted flights.

Here we have Peter Lawall's "Ole Faithful" on one of its three great flights today; next is Joe Roberts "Pyramid of Death" on a G80-4T motor. At right is Rick DeFonce's Red Rocket on a D12.
